Poul Christiansen

Poul Christiansen (1947)

Poul Christiansen is famous for his innovative and unique lampshades inspired by folding sine curves. He was born in Copenhagen In 2006, he designed a lamp (model 215) allegedly inspired by the Sydney Opera House and originally intended as a proposed architecture model.

Christiansen graduated from Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts‘ of Architecture in Copenhagen in 1973. Soon after he started working for companies like Herman Miller and Kevi. It was when Christiansen started working for Le Klint he experimented with mathematical curves, which transformed Le Klint’s traditional pleated lampshades into exciting sculpture-like shapes.

In 1987 Christiansen founded “Komplot Design” together with Boris Berlin. Over the course of their partnership they have won a number of awards and designed for clients like Gubi, Fora Form and Hay.

Komplot had a multidisciplinary approach, working across industrial, graphic and furniture design. Their work have received widespread acclaim and won numerous international design awards.
