Design story

Arne Jacobsen bellevue aj8 designed in 1929 with an industrial look.

Jacobsen was one of the greatest architects of the time, who designed both houses and interiors for the home. Although he passed away in 1971, we still enjoy all his designs to this day.

His lamps in particular can be found in many Danish homes. One of those lamps is the Bellevue lamp by Arne Jacobsen, which was originally designed in connection with a design competition, and he named it the Bellevue lamp after one of his house designs.

Along the Strandvejen in Klampenborg North of Copenhagen, Arne Jacobsen designed and built a larger building with the associated Bellevue Theatre. The lamp was thus named after the theatre, and the name became the Bellevue Lamp by Arne Jacobsen. The lamps are produced today by &tradition

Jacobsen’s design philosophy, characterized by sleek lines, organic forms, and attention to detail, finds its essence in the Bellevue AJ8. Crafted from a seamless combination of high-quality materials, including brushed steel, the lamp displays a sense of understated luxury. Its minimalist silhouette, defined by a gracefully curved stem and a conical shade, embodies the essence of Danish design principles – simplicity, functionality, and beauty.

At the heart of the Bellevue AJ8 lies its clever adjustability, a hallmark feature that sets it apart. The lamp’s swivelling mechanism allows users to effortlessly direct light exactly where it’s needed, making it an indispensable companion for tasks requiring precision and focus. Whether illuminating a workspace, adorning a bedside table, or accentuating a living area, the Bellevue AJ8 lends an aura of sophistication to any environment it graces.

Beyond its aesthetic allure, the Bellevue AJ8 remains a paragon of practicality. Jacobsen’s meticulous engineering ensures optimal illumination without glare, fostering an ambiance conducive to productivity and relaxation alike.
