Design story
The Omann Jun sideboard, an icon of Danish mid-century modern design, exemplifies the timeless elegance and craftsmanship that defined the era. Crafted by Omann Jun Møbelfabrik, a family-run company established in 1933 by Andreas Omann in Horsens, Denmark. The sideboards have become sought after pieces among collectors and design enthusiasts alike. The Classic “Model 13” is among the rarer designs as its production ceased in the 20th century.
Gunni Omann designed until the late 1960s for Omann Jun Møbelfabrik. Initially, the family-owned company produced bedroom furniture, later adding dining room furniture and shelving systems. Many of the company’s products were designed by family members, for the most part by Gunni Omann
The sideboards are known for their minimalist design, characterized by clean lines, organic shapes, and functional aesthetics. Typically made from rich woods such as teak, rosewood, and oak, the sideboards showcase the stunning grain and natural beauty of the materials. Omann Jun is know for their incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail. This is evident in the seamless joinery, smooth sliding doors, and precision of the dovetail joints.
One of the distinctive features of Omann Jun sideboards is their versatility. They often include a combination of sliding doors, drawers, and open shelving, providing ample storage space while maintaining a sleek, uncluttered appearance. This makes them not only visually appealing but also highly functional, suitable for various uses in the living room, dining room, or office.
The design philosophy of Omann Jun Møbelfabrik centers on creating pieces that blend form and function. This approach is evident in the sideboards’ thoughtful design elements, such as recessed handles and elegantly tapered legs, which contribute to their streamlined look.
Today, Omann Jun sideboards are highly sought after in the vintage and antique market. They are appreciated not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their representation of the golden age of Danish furniture design.
