Design story

Dennis Marquart Rama Chair by OX Denmarq is handmade by skilled craftsmen. The frame is made of beautiful American soap treated oak. The seat is made of 100% vegetable black leather with a general thickness of 4 mm or more. Both leather and frame may exhibit markings consistent with hand craftsmanship. The surface of the leather, which is made in one single piece, is left as natural as possible to leave the leather susceptible for patina.

Dennis Marquart is a Danish designer and co-founder of the design company “OX Denmarq”. Marquart studied furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art. A lot of Marquart’s designs are inspired from Asian culture. The taste of Asia was acquired from his student time in Japan and China.

The Asian influence is visible in his work aesthetics of simplicity and precision, which also fits well with traditional Scandinavian design philosophy.

OX Denmarq was established in 2003 and has since become a highly respected design brand around the world.

The Ox in the company’s name plays on the unique leather (and tribute to one of the most powerful animals), which was primarily used in the label’s first designs in combination with steel or wood. “Ox” also fits in with Marquart’s design philosophy to create furniture that will last for a lifetime.

The other half of our name, Denmarq, is chosen to emphasize that it is a Danish design brand. It is based on Danish design tradition and most of their furniture is produced in Denmark. At the same time, Denmarq refers to the co-founder and designer – DENnis MARQuart.
